By having the pan positioned at the top of the fire feature, the space below is left open, which greatly improves airflow – a crucial factor, especially for propane-fueled fires, which require adequate oxygen to maintain their flames. This empty space also means you won't need to spend additional funds on fillers like sand or lava rock to elevate your fire media.

When planning and designing your fire pit, it's important to consider the following guidelines: - Ensure the installation is approved for outdoor use only. - Install the proper size gas line based on the BTU rating of the appliance to achieve the desired flame appearance. - Maintain the recommended clearances, with a minimum of 48" from the sides surrounding the fire pit. - Incorporate two air vents, with a minimum of 18 square inches on each side of the pit enclosure. - Additional ventilation may be required based on the enclosure's material, size, and usage.
To determine the amount of fire glass needed for your fire pit, you can use our handy calculators. For circular or rounded fire pits, the formula is: Diameter x Diameter x Depth, divided by 24 = pounds of fire glass needed. For square or rectangular fire pits, the formula is: Width x Length x Depth, divided by 19 = pounds of fire glass needed. We generally recommend a minimum of 2 inches of fire glass depth for most installations.
